CMS Bulldogs Protect All Dawgs' Rights To Be Who They Are.

Status Report

Hello all,

We enjoyed the start to the residency this week and working with all of you! What a pleasure to see it happening and to meet the great students there at Chowan Middle School as well.

Here's where we are -

• We all participated in a planning session with the three faculty members who will be coordinating individual aspects of the residency - choral/general music, drama, band, and visual art.

• There was an introduction and summary of the project to the students.

• Each 7th grade student in the general music, band, and art classes of Periods A & B, was asked to provide personal responses, reflections & journaling based on questions specific to the themes of civil rights & bullying (The question - Have you ever seen, witnessed, or experienced someone protecting another person's civil rights? Supporting elements to the question - Who? What? When? Where? Why (point of view)? and How was it resolved?)

The students work will culminate in a presentation which will include the collective efforts of all three courses for periods A&B; the presentation will take place as part of the May 9th event at the community center.

Writing Assignment

Recall a time when you witnessed someone defend another person's rights.

Be sure to include...

Who was involved.

What happened.

When it happened

Where it happened

Why it happened. Point of View. Can you imagine why the violation happened.

How it was resolved.
